Oahu is two islands, and the flight length decides which you get
From the ground, most visitors experience the south shore: Waikiki, Diamond Head, the airport, Pearl Harbor. It is dry, built up and busy. The other side of the Koolau range is green to the waterline, almost empty, and walled by cliffs that go up vertically for two thousand feet.
A twenty-minute flight stays on the south shore. A thirty-minute flight reaches Makapuu Point and looks in at the Pali. An hour crosses the range, runs down the windward coast past Kaneohe Bay and Mokolii, and comes home over Pearl Harbor. Sixty-five minutes rounds the whole island including the Nuuanu rainforest.
That is the entire decision. Everything else — doors, operator, aircraft type — matters far less than whether your flight crosses the range.

Is an Oahu helicopter tour worth it?
It is expensive, and Oahu is not short of things to do. The case for it is specific: this is an island where the two halves are genuinely different places, and there is no road, trail or lookout that shows you both at once. An hour in the air does exactly that.
The second argument is doors off. Very few destinations offer it as a standard choice on ordinary sightseeing flights, and it changes the photographs completely — no perspex, no reflections, nothing between you and the cliffs.
What the money does not buy is a landing, a guaranteed waterfall or a choice of seat on a shared flight. Book it early in the trip, take the first slot of the day, and accept that the Koolau falls depend on last week’s rain rather than on what you paid.
